What online ping measures

Ping sends ICMP echo and reports RTT and loss from the IPTOOL server. Numbers will differ from your laptop.

IPv4 and IPv6 are accepted; RFC 1918 is refused. Use HTTP/TLS tools for application health.

Frequently asked questions

Why 100% loss?

The target may drop ICMP. If HTTP still returns 200, the service is up.

Is IPv6 ping separate?

If the target has AAAA, IPv6 echo is used. Dual-stack choice depends on the form.

Why a ping limit?

To curb abuse. ICMP is a resource; only a few packets go out per window.

Why does anycast RTT jump?

Addresses like 1.1.1.1 hit the nearest node; a path change changes RTT.

Same as Windows traceroute?
